Launched a control and treatment fund Addiction And addiction, headed by Dr. Maya Morsi and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fund, in cooperation with the Leadership Development Institute of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, held a training camp in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh to prepare and qualify volunteer leaders from university students, on developing volunteer work and combating drug abuse, in the presence of Dr. Amr Othman, Director of the Fund. Combating and treating addiction and abuse, and Dr. Karim Hammam, advisor to the Minister of Higher Education for student activities and director of the Leadership Development Institute.

This comes within the framework of implementing the national plan to combat drugs and reduce the risks of abuse and addiction 2024-2027. The camp, which lasted for 4 days, aims to include 120 male and female students, leaders, presidents and members of distinguished student unions in student activities and general directors of youth departments in 27 public universities at the level of The Republic aims to invest in the positive energies of young people and prepare training programs that qualify them as leaders for volunteer work. It also aims to increase the cognitive and skill capabilities of young people in the field of reducing the demand for drugs. They were chosen as leaders in volunteer work to implement awareness initiatives and activities about the harms of drugs within their universities and introduce students to the Anti-Addiction Fund and its services. Preventive and therapeutic measures, and responding to inquiries about the nature of addiction and the possibility of treatment through the hotline 16023.

It also aims to increase the cognitive and skill capabilities of university students on societal issues, especially the issue of reducing the demand for drugs, as a group of Egyptian university students has been prepared as volunteer leaders, and among the job duties of these students who join the volunteer units of the Anti-Addiction Fund is to participate in preparing and implementing plans and strategies. Which the Fund sets to prevent drug abuse and implement awareness activities within their university to protect young people from falling into the clutches of addiction.

During his meeting with the students, Dr. Amr Othman, Director of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, stressed the importance of their role in implementing various activities and programs to raise awareness of the harms of drug abuse through innovative and creative methods consistent with different age stages, pointing out that these students are being trained on how to manage volunteer work. And also how to prepare and implement awareness programs on combating drug abuse with the aim of preparing a generation of young people capable of taking responsibility and making the right decisions in combating drug abuse in light of Egypt’s Vision 2030.

The camp included 9 groups of participating students, and each group prepared a development initiative, and 4 initiatives that can be implemented in Egyptian universities won. The first was an initiative on how to develop cognitive awareness among university youth about the dangers of smoking and substance abuse, and the second was about belonging, social dialogue, and how to introduce young people to the achievements of the Egyptian state. On the ground so that they can achieve belonging and development, the initiative included working on how to change the cognitive and mental paths of young people and their attitudes towards societal issues and make them able to spread awareness and participate in solving societal problems, while the fourth initiative, under the name “With You to the Other,” included continued community participation and the introduction of services.
