Dr. Hassan Al-Yadak, Secretary of Fatwa at the Egyptian Fatwa House, answered a woman’s question about the ruling on abstaining from feeding cats that cause harm to neighbors inside residential buildings?

Are cats harming neighbors and denying them food? And the fatwa secretary explains the legal ruling

The Fatwa Secretary at the Egyptian Fatwa House said, during television statements, that a person must be careful when feeding cats in residential areas, especially if these cats cause problems for neighbors, pointing out that feeding cats in buildings must be done with caution, especially if these Cats pollute the place or cause inconvenience to people living in the building.

He added: When a person performs a kind act, he must think about the consequences of this act. He should not harm others through his good intentions in feeding animals. He explained that if cats gather inside the building and cause problems, the person must put food for them in places. Far from people’s homes, such as outside buildings or in areas that are not disturbing to others, such as garbage collection areas.

He pointed out that cats can also be moved to other places where food is available to them, away from crowding inside residential buildings, stressing that maintaining the comfort of neighbors and people in the building is extremely important.

He stressed that Islam encourages feeding and caring for animals, but stressed that this must be done with intelligence and balance, and not lead to harm or inconvenience to others, citing the hadith of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, about the woman who entered Hell because of a cat she trapped and did not feed, saying: “ In the hadith of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, we know that feeding animals has a great reward, but it must be done in a way that does not harm others.”

He advised all individuals to take into account the surrounding environmental and social conditions when carrying out charitable works, such as feeding animals, to avoid problems and negative effects on neighbors and society.
