The North American continent is preparing to host a tournament cup World 2026, which will bring together the world’s national teams in three countries: the United States of America, Canada and Mexico. However, as the event approaches, warnings have increased about the effects of climate change that may pose a major threat to the health and fitness of the players participating in the tournament.
A disaster threatens the health of players in the 2026 World Cup
According to a new study, the scientific journal Scientific Reports warned that 10 of the 16 stadiums scheduled to host World Cup matches will face an unprecedented rise in temperatures.
She explained that this height may make it impossible for players to perform their sports activities as required, which requires reconsidering the prevailing weather conditions as a factor directly affecting sports performance.
The Polish researchers who prepared the study reported that high temperatures pose a serious risk to the health of players, and said: The impact of climate must be taken seriously into account as one of the main factors affecting sports performance.
The seriousness of environmental factors
They also added that the focus was not only on environmental factors, but also the level of physical activity of the players, the speed of their movements, in addition to the effect of clothing, which may be an additional obstacle in high-temperature conditions.
The study also pointed to health risks resulting from extremely high temperatures, such as dehydration and associated health problems, especially in cities where temperatures may reach 49 or 50 degrees Celsius, such as Monterey and the US state of Florida.
It is worth noting that the 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 16, which is the period that witnesses the highest levels of temperature in many participating cities, which increases concern about the players being affected by these harsh climatic conditions.
