Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar launched, Minister of Health and Populationa new national initiative to support mental health, stressing the importance of providing psychological care to citizens and achieving integration between the physical, psychological and social aspects of public health.
During his speech, Abdul Ghaffar stressed the continuous efforts made by the Ministry, noting that the health sector has witnessed the launch of 14 health initiatives so far, which have achieved great successes and received wide praise from international organizations, such as the World Health Organization.
The Minister said: Mental health is not limited to cases of severe mental disorder, but rather extends to include feelings of anxiety, stress, lack of enjoyment of life, and depression that affect a person’s quality of life, highlighting the importance of confronting misconceptions about mental health in society.
He stressed that the Ministry is investing heavily in preparing the infrastructure to provide psychological support, as hotlines and support services are currently provided to respond to citizens’ inquiries and direct them to obtain appropriate treatment, stressing that mental health is not just a slogan, but rather a necessity for the future of a healthy and balanced society.
He expressed the importance of early detection of psychological disorders since childhood, noting that the new initiative will focus on early diagnosis of autism in children, which is a vital step to support families and enable them to deal with these challenges.
He stressed that mental health requires community awareness and collective will to combat the factors that increase the spread of mental disorders, calling on society to realize that mental health is an integral part of public health.
