The ranking of the best-selling cars in the world until September 2024 showed the dominance of the Japanese company Toyota in the market, as it occupied 4 places in the list of the 10 best-selling cars, and the Toyota Corolla topped the list.
Toyota still dominates the ranking of the best car brands until September 2024 (-1.5%), followed by Volkswagen in second place (-1.1%) and BYD is growing by 35.3% to occupy sixth place.
Global classification of car brands
Looking at cumulative data up to September 2024, Japan’s Toyota was still the best-selling brand and has been so for the past 10 years, with 6.6 million vehicles, an annual growth of -1.5%.
Volkswagen, in second place, occupied a share of -1.1% of the global market, selling 3.5 million cars (-1.1%).
In third place is Honda – up one place – with sales of 2.76 million units and a loss of 0.6% year-on-year.
In fourth place is Ford – up one place – with sales of 2.73 million vehicles (-0.8%), followed by Hyundai – down two places – with sales of 2.72 million (-3.5%) and BYD – up three places – with sales of 2.51 million (+ 35.3%). BYD is an electric vehicle company that still sells internal combustion vehicles (accounting for more than half of the company’s sales) and in 2019, BYD ranked 49th in the world!
Nissan – down one place – ranked seventh with sales of 2.34 million units (+1.4%), followed by Kia – up one place – with sales of 2.15 million units (-4.4%), and Chevrolet – down two places – with sales of 2.09 million ( -7.7%). Rounding out the top ten list was Mercedes, which recorded 1.62 million new registrations (-1.4%).
