The Cairo Ministerial Conference is held to strengthen the humanitarian response in Gaza
The Cairo conference comes amid Arab aspirations to lift Israeli restrictions on aid and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, to support and strengthen the humanitarian response to the Gaza Strip, under the title: One Year Since the Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza… Urgent Needs and Sustainable Solutions.
The conference aims to mobilize broad international support to alleviate the severity of the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and enhance the volume of humanitarian aid, by dealing with the current humanitarian catastrophe and providing the requirements for early recovery in the Strip. The conference addresses the political, security and humanitarian dimensions, and coordination with various international and regional actors. To push for the implementation of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and to seek a ceasefire and peace.
The conference comes in light of official Arab demands to lift Israeli restrictions on the passage of aid to the Gaza Strip, after Israel’s decision to ban the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) last October. The conference also coincides with the celebration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on November 29 of each year. Year, as that occasion falls this year in light of Israel continuing its war on the Gaza Strip for the 14th month in a row, where about 149 thousand Palestinians were martyred and injured, most of them children. And women, amid famine and massive destruction in the Gaza Strip.
