Using sunscreen reduces the incidence of disease melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Commercial sunscreens use chemical or physical ingredients to protect against the harmful effects of UV rays on the skin, as part of an overall photoprotection strategy.

The Canadian Dermatology Society advises most adults and children to use an adequate amount of broad-spectrum sunscreen with a UV protection factor of at least 30. In addition to using sunscreen, here are 6 simple but effective habits in preventing skin cancer, according to what was published in Times of India.

Avoid the sun during peak hours

Health experts advise avoiding exposure to sunlight during peak hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., especially during the summer, and using long-sleeved clothes and pants instead of short pieces, and using wide hats and sunglasses.

Prevent direct heat to the body

Avoiding prolonged exposure to heat using heating devices can prevent skin cancer. It is recommended to keep the heat source indirect, give the body intermittent rest periods, and continue to change the exposed area when exposed to direct heat.

Get regular checkups for scars

People with old scars, which indicate skin cancer, may develop scarring in the affected area, and these scars should be subjected to regular self- and medical examination.

Any new ulcer that does not heal within 2-3 weeks should also be examined by a specialist, who will take a biopsy if necessary.

Always keep your weight under control

Keeping a check on your weight is essential, as excess belly fat can be a gateway to many serious health complications.

Doctors also recommend maintaining a healthy weight and eating a healthy diet rich in vegetables, fruits, nuts and antioxidants, as is the case with other types of cancer.
