The Tanta Antiquities Museum displays a new artifact on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Islamic Art

The Tanta Antiquities Museum displays a unique artifact, which is a vessel made of silver from the Islamic era, with a round and concave base, decorated with floral leaves and some Arabic writing, “And say, ‘My Lord, increase me’.”

The administration of the Tanta Antiquities Museum said in a statement that the display of the piece comes within the framework of the celebration of the International Day of Islamic Art, which is a global celebration day held on November 18 and approved by UNESCO in 2019 to celebrate Islamic art and raise awareness.

She pointed out that celebrating Islamic art is important in terms of raising awareness about the importance of past and contemporary Islamic artistic expressions and the contribution of Islamic art to cultural diversity, promoting cultural heritage and intercultural dialogue.

The administration of the Tanta Antiquities Museum announced the display of an important artifact, a rectangular sarcophagus, in celebration of International Museum Day, which falls on May 18 of each year as designated by the International Council of Museums since 1977.

The administration of the Tanta Antiquities Museum added that the coffin is rectangular in shape, with what represents daily life and the offerings offered to the deceased, and on the left side there are two “ojat” eyes, and inside it is a mummy whose coils are intact but crumbling at the chest.

It is noteworthy that when entering the Tanta Antiquities Museum, the museum visitor will find a gift house at the main entrance. The museum contains artistic and architectural pieces representing the civilization of Egypt in the Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Christian and Islamic eras. The museum is not considered a regional museum, as it contains artistic pieces from outside the Gharbia Governorate.
