The state’s plan to return to the natural gas market…a surprise on the way

Zohr field is one of the greatest natural gas discoveries in the modern century, but unfortunately in the recent period there has been a decline in production. I wonder what the reason for this is and how the state will restore its production to the golden period again. Stay with us until the end and you will know the details in the next report.

There is something known around the whole world in the field of petroleum and archaeological discoveries, which is the decline in the production of some oil wells due to the seniority that the oil well has, and this is what happened in the Zohr field, in which there was a decline in production, and this decline made Egypt stop exporting natural gas to foreign countries as well. It was shifted to importing it during the months of last summer in order to eliminate the crisis that existed in Egypt, which was related to reducing loads and cutting off electricity to homes and streets, which continued in Egypt for more than a year due to the decline in the quantities of natural gas that the government supplies to power generation stations.

Ok, how much does the production from Zohr field reach, and how will the country supply this production?

In order to understand how the world is moving, we must know that the Zohr field was discovered by the Italian company Eni in December 2017 and has been in production for more than 6 years, and its production reaches 5 trillion cubic feet and 9 million barrels on a daily basis. Unfortunately, there has been a decline in production in the recent period and the rate This decline reached 15% of the annual production volume.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said that the Zohr gas field now produces approximately 2 billion cubic meters of gas on a daily basis, and it is one of the most important gas fields in Egypt, and currently the state is trying in every way to maximize its daily production by drilling gas wells that will achieve a leap. New development for the Egyptian economy.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources spoke about the decline in production that occurred in the field and said that it is a global phenomenon that occurs in all oil wells in the world, and the delay in new exploration operations due to the Ministry’s delay in paying the dues of some foreign companies working in the field of exploration and detection of new oil wells, and which stopped It operates completely and partially, and thus the volume of natural gas and oil discoveries declined very significantly due to the lack of local reserves of natural gas and petroleum materials that the state needs in order to secure the daily needs of citizens. This does not guarantee the needs of power generation stations that operate with regular fuel, whether natural gas or diesel. Unfortunately, the decline in the natural gas reserves of the generating stations caused some stations to stop working completely, and thus the crisis of load shedding and electricity cuts emerged that occurred in Egypt over the course of an entire year.

The Ministry of Petroleum also said that the state has currently provided a large portion of the money of foreign companies working in the fields of research and exploration for petroleum materials in Egypt, and currently a large percentage of companies have returned and resumed their work normally.
The first company to resume work in the Zohr field is the Italian company Eni, which announced the start of drilling two new wells in the first quarter of 2025, in order to enter Egyptian production lines from petroleum discoveries.
