It is held Security Council Today, Monday, the International Conference held an important briefing session under the agenda item “The Situation in the Middle East,” under the title “Ending the War and Securing Lasting Peace,” chaired by the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary, David Lammy.
During the session, Council members are expected to hear a briefing from the Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, who will address recent developments in the region and efforts to achieve peace.
The United Kingdom, which presides over the Security Council this month, had prepared a memorandum for the session, noting the importance of ending the war in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, with a focus on ensuring a broader regional calm through stopping escalation and conflict.
Efforts to end conflicts in the region
According to the memorandum, the session is an opportunity for the Council to reflect on how to “inject renewed momentum into efforts to end conflicts in the region,” and discusses how the end of the conflict represents an important turning point towards achieving long-term stability and security in the Middle East, and this vision is based on promoting peaceful solutions. On the basis of the “two-state solution” as a path to achieving lasting peace in the region.
This session is an important step in the context of the ongoing crises in the region, as the international community seeks, through the Security Council, to find comprehensive solutions that guarantee security and stability for all parties concerned.
