The meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Rasha Ziadeh, Assistant President of the Egyptian Drug Authority for Technical and Capacity Development Affairs, included a review of the procedures followed in Egypt during the registration and control process to ensure the quality and safety of cosmetics, and a discussion of the mechanisms for trading cosmetics in line with European standards. The meeting was highlighted. The most prominent joint work of the International Cooperation Organization in regulating cosmetics (ICCR), in which the Egyptian Medicines Authority has participated as a monitor since 2021.

The Authority is represented on the organization’s steering committee by Dr. Heba Essam El-Din, Director General of Cosmetics Registration, and Dr. Sondos Mohammed Al-Saeed, Director of the Department of Cooperation with International Organizations – which also represents the Cosmetics Europe Association, the European cosmetics industry in the organization.

It is worth noting that the Egyptian Medicines Authority’s reference for evaluating cosmetics is the European Cosmetic Products Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 and its amendments, and also the reference in the evaluation of cosmetic ingredients is the COSING database contained in the European Cosmetics Regulation.

The meeting reflects the strategy of the Egyptian Drug Authority in cooperating with industry partners, strengthening its leadership role in the field of cosmetics control, exchanging experiences to ensure the safety and quality of these products in Egypt, its appreciation of the strong economic role of the field of cosmetics, and its keenness to make room for local and foreign investments in this field.
