At the conclusion of his visit to Italy, Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, inspected the factory of the Italian company Mermec, which specializes in the fields of signaling systems and railway measurement inspection, as the company’s systems operate in 73 countries around the world.
Following the inspection tour of the factory, the Minister held a discussion session with Vito Bertoza, owner of the company, where the Minister referred to the Egyptian state’s strategy regarding the importance of localizing the transportation industry, the most important of which is signaling systems, by attracting investors in this field, which requires the company to invest in Egypt and transfer knowledge of the signaling systems industry from By creating Egyptian cadres capable of designing, manufacturing and implementing signaling systems and automatic control of trains.
In light of this, Vito Bertozza stressed that the company’s vision matches the vision of the Egyptian state in the importance of establishing a regional center for the company in Egypt to manufacture signaling systems, not only to meet local needs in the Middle East and Africa, but also to meet the growing demand in Europe.
Mermek also reviewed the localization plan, which is based on establishing a local factory for signaling systems, as well as establishing a training academy to create skilled local cadres in this field.
The company explained its intention to implement the localization plan through two stages, which will include design activities, programming, component manufacturing, integration, testing, as well as maintenance work.
Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir stressed that the Egyptian state will provide full support to Mermek to ensure the success of the company’s localization plan.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to hold continuous meetings until the relevant agreements are finalized and the procedures for establishing the company’s factory in Egypt begin.
