Ceasefire talks in Lebanon
The American envoy to Lebanon announced during a press conference after his meeting with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, that additional progress had been achieved in the talks, adding that he would travel to Israel to try to end this matter if we can, in reference to reaching a ceasefire agreement.
Hochstein’s visit to Beirut comes at a sensitive time, as Israel has intensified its air strikes in Lebanon since September 23, targeting Hezbollah strongholds in the southern suburbs of Beirut and the south of the country, in addition to beginning ground incursions into the south.
In another meeting with Berri on Tuesday, which lasted about two hours, Hochstein indicated that the decision is now at hand, stressing that the final decision on resolving the dispute rests with the parties concerned.
Hochstein explained that his talks with Berri were very constructive, saying that there was progress in reducing the gaps between the parties during the discussions that took place in the past weeks.
