Skin-to-skin contact between a mother and her baby is the basis for a healthy start

Ministry announced health Residents expressed a set of important tips for mothers to care for newborns from the moment of birth until the end of the first week, stressing the importance of adhering to the guidelines to achieve a healthy and safe start for the child.

The Ministry confirmed in a statement that the direct contact of the baby’s skin with the mother’s skin immediately after birth strengthens the emotional bond between them and contributes to the child’s feeling of security. She also recommended approaching the child to communicate with him by looking into his eyes and talking to him gently, which enhances his visual and sensory communication.

The Ministry added the importance of providing a space for the child to move his hands and feet freely, which contributes to the natural development of his motor abilities. She also called on mothers to be careful to breastfeed the child upon request, especially during the first hours after birth, as this has great health benefits on his immunity and growth.

The Ministry affirmed its commitment to continue providing support and guidance to mothers within the 100 Million Health Initiative, which aims to improve maternal and child health throughout the Republic.

Earlier, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, yesterday received Ambassador Nader Zaki, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Philippines, to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the health sector, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

The Minister began the meeting by welcoming Ambassador Nader Zaki, stressing the importance of the role of Egypt’s ambassadors abroad in enhancing mutual understanding and expanding horizons of cooperation in the health sector, which contributes to achieving common interests, out of concern for the health of citizens.
