The city of St. Catherine, in South Sinai, is preparing to celebrate the Feast of the Martyrdom of St. Catherine, which will be held inside the Monastery of St. Catherine on December 7, amid expectations of the attendance of a large number of tourists from various countries of the world.

Who is Saint Catherine?
Al-Ghamrini confirmed that Saint Catherine, daughter of the ruler of Alexandria, was born in the late third century. After her, the Monastery of Saint Catherine in the city was named, and it is one of the oldest monasteries in the world. She was persecuted and tortured until she died, and the Monastery of Saint Catherine was built during the reign of Emperor Justinian.
He pointed out that celebrations at the monastery take place on December 7 and end on the morning of December 8, and prayers are held in the main church of the monastery in the presence of all the monastery’s monks and visitors present and participating in the celebration.
The monastery celebrates the discovery of the relics of Saint Catherine on the top of Mount Saint Catherine, which consist of the head and the palm of a hand. They were placed in the monastery in the eleventh century.
Al-Ghamrini explained that large numbers of thousands of tourists of various nationalities are expected to attend to celebrate the martyrdom of Saint Catherine, which is considered a feast day in the monastery and for all the people of Saint Catherine due to the presence of large numbers of tourists.
Al-Ghamrini revealed that the city is ready to receive tourists and work to make them comfortable, and there are several meetings with all concerned parties, and arrangements have been made for this day to pass without any obstacles.
