The American Wall Street Journal revealed, on Tuesday, that Republican President Donald Trump announced the selection of Mike Waltz Consultant For National Security, succeeding John Kirby.
Who is Mike Waltz?
Known for his loyalty to Trump, Waltz is a retired US Army Special Forces officer who also served in the National Guard with the rank of colonel. Waltz also has a long history in political circles in Washington.
Among his most prominent positions, Waltz criticized Chinese activity in the Asia-Pacific region, and pointed out the need for the United States to prepare for a possible conflict in the region.

He was elected to Congress in 2018.
It is also noteworthy that Waltz is the Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee that oversees military logistics, as well as a member of the Select Committee on Intelligence.
Waltz also participates in the Republican Task Force on China Affairs, and Waltz will be responsible for briefing Trump on key issues related to national security and coordinating with various agencies.
Earlier, Waltz criticized US President Joe Biden’s administration for the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, and publicly praised Trump’s foreign policy views on more than one occasion.
Regarding Ukraine, Waltz said that his views have evolved. After the Russian military operation in Ukraine, he called on the Biden administration to provide more weapons to Kiev to help it repel Russian forces, and during an event last month, he said that the goals of the United States in Ukraine must be reassessed.
Waltz also criticized what he described as Washington’s investments in the Pacific, saying: Is it right to spend the time, wealth and resources that we desperately need in the Pacific now?
