The outlet station in which the malfunction occurred supplies the 6th of October City with turbid water from the water outlet on the Nile and the turbid water riser in Al-Ayat, which consists of (a water pump house – a generator house), in addition to the three water conveying lines, 2200 mm in diameter, with a length of 38.5 km from the Al-Ayat outlet to the purification station in the city. The design capacity of the water intake on the Nile is approximately 1.6 million cubic meters per day, and it is controlled electronically through the SCADA system, and is divided into 4 stages, each stage with a capacity of 400 thousand cubic meters per day. Two stages have been operated, and the civil works for the other two stages are being implemented, and the electromechanical works for one of them are underway. Water is transported to the station through 3 conveyor lines with a diameter of 2200 mm.
The purification station receives turbid water from the Al-Ayat station, which is located in 6th of October City, the first phase of which has a capacity of 400 thousand m3/day and is currently operating at full capacity. After the completion of the expansions, the station will have a total capacity of one million and 200 thousand m3/day.
The second and third phases of the station include the implementation of distribution wells – water dispensers – sand filters – filter pump houses – generator houses – filter washing pump houses – filtered water tanks, in addition to the electromechanical supplies and civil works necessary for operation and maintenance, including buildings, workshops, maintenance, etc.
Expansion of the drinking water purification plant in 6th of October City
The expansion project of the drinking water purification station in 6th of October City is considered one of the most important projects that have been implemented, as the production capacity of the station will be doubled to meet the urban growth in October cities, in addition to increasing and improving the services provided to citizens in the drinking water sector.
Sources from the 6th of October City Development Authority confirmed, in previous statements, that work is underway to repair a malfunction in the valve chambers on the exhaust lines coming out of the Al-Makhab station in Al-Ayat (the main feeding system for the cities of October), which caused a number of pumps to be out of service at the Al-Makhab station.
She indicated that the water is expected to return to normal within two hours from now, and it may take several hours for the water to reach the affected areas, due to the long distance and the size of the lines connecting the stations.
The Ministry of Housing provided drinking water vehicles belonging to the Giza Water Company and other vehicles belonging to city agencies, which roam all areas affected by the outage to provide water to residents, indicating that water will continue to be provided to all areas until water returns to normal.
