Postponing the trial of a gas conductor accused of killing an elderly woman in Gharbia by stealing her gold jewelry

Victim defense requests

Today, the court heard the Public Prosecution’s case, which demanded that the maximum penalty be imposed on the accused, which was death by hanging.

The victim’s family revealed the full details about her murder at the hands of the gas conductor, with the aim of stealing her gold jewelry, and exhuming her body 11 days after her burial, in the city of Zefta, Gharbia Governorate.

Details of the incident

The victim’s husband said that he went out on the day of the incident to perform a condolence duty, and when he returned home, he was surprised by his wife lying on the ground, a lifeless body. He had no doubts at first and thought that she had died naturally, pointing out that the laundress discovered that there were burn marks on her body, and informed her daughters, But they rushed to the burial due to lack of time.

He continued his speech, saying that they did not notice that she was not wearing her gold jewelry, saying: “I thought that one of her daughters had taken the gold,” indicating that his heart felt that there was a criminal suspicion in his wife’s death, and he suspected the gas conductor and informed the security services 3 days after her burial, and it turned out that she had died. As a result of holding her breath, assaulting her, and dragging her, with the aim of stealing her gold jewelry.

The husband added that he discovered, through the accused’s confession, that he had agreed with the chief collector in the region to collect sums of money from homes because he was busy in another job in exchange for a percentage of his salary, and that the accused continued to do so for 4 consecutive months.

The forensic report of the victim revealed a fracture of the cervical vertebrae, a rupture of the spinal cord, and death as a result of asphyxia, pressure on the neck and holding her breath. The incident as a whole occurred at the time of the imaging mentioned in the prosecution’s memorandum.

The incident occurred when the security services in the Gharbia Security Directorate received notification from the warden of the Zefta Center that a report had been received from the residents that a 75-year-old woman had been killed inside her residential apartment.

Immediately, a security force moved to the place where the report was reported, and the examination revealed that the woman died as a result of being strangled and holding her breath, with the aim of stealing her gold jewelry, a ring, chain, and earring, and there were no signs of breakage in the door of the apartment.

Investigations revealed that, after the surveillance cameras were removed, it was revealed that the gas conductor entered the house, where he gagged the victim’s nose and mouth until she breathed her last, stole her gold jewelry, and fled.

By codifying the procedures, the accused was arrested, and when he was confronted with the charges against him, he confessed to them in detail, and he was presented to the investigating authorities, who ordered his detention pending investigation.
