Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, and Eng. Adel Saeed, Governor of Giza, inaugurated the first model of “one-day” markets in Giza Governorate in the Imbaba region, in the presence of Dr. Alaa Nagy, President of the Holding Company for Food Industries, Mohamed Nour, Secretary General of Giza Governorate, and Mohamed Marei, President of Giza City. As part of the Egyptian state’s efforts to provide basic goods to citizens at reduced prices, which is considered a new step within a series of markets that aim to control prices and provide goods directly to consumers.
The Minister explained that this initiative is part of government efforts aimed at reducing the influence of intermediate links in the process of supplying goods, which contributes to reducing prices and increasing the supply of basic products. He pointed out that the market is organized in cooperation between the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade and the relevant government agencies, and it provides producers with the opportunity to sell their products directly to citizens without the intervention of intermediaries, which enhances citizens’ ability to obtain goods at reasonable prices.
Dr. Sherif Farouk also stressed the importance of continuous coordination between the government and private sectors, especially in light of the expansion of establishing more “one-day” markets and mobile outlets nationwide, noting that this initiative is an important step towards strengthening control over markets and facilitating the access of goods to citizens. In various regions, to support the government’s efforts to confront rises in commodity prices.
The minister explained that the new market includes a variety of basic food commodities such as meat, frozen poultry, vegetables and fruits, in addition to other products that citizens need on a daily basis. He added that this initiative will contribute significantly to alleviating the burden on Egyptian families by providing high-quality products at affordable prices. Less than traditional markets.
The Minister indicated that work is underway to expand the scope of this successful experience to include all governorates of the Republic, stressing that such initiatives represent part of a comprehensive plan aimed at ensuring the stability of the local market and meeting the needs of citizens.
For his part, the Governor of Giza explained that the state, with all its agencies, is working to reduce the burden on citizens and provide them with goods at reasonable prices, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to provide various possible forms of support to citizens.
The governor also confirmed that the market will be held on a weekly basis on Friday, and that the street will be reopened to traffic normally for the rest of the week. He pointed out that the market serves the neighborhoods of Imbaba, Al-Munira Al-Gharbiyah, and Al-Warraq, as it provides food commodities, family needs, vegetables, fruits, poultry, and meat at discounts of up to 30%.
Engineer Adel Al-Najjar confirmed that, in cooperation with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, one-day markets will be organized in a number of other neighborhoods and will be circulated in all neighborhoods, centers and cities of the governorate, respectively.
The Governor of Giza called on the citizens of the governorate to visit the market, take advantage of what is on offer, and buy their needs of food supplies, goods, vegetables, fruits, meat, and frozen goods at reduced prices.
