North Korean leader Kim Jong Un denounced the United States for what he described as raising the level of military pressure and provocations to the maximum extent, during a speech he delivered Thursday at the annual arms exhibition that began in the capital, Pyongyang.

The agency explained that Kim’s statements came during a speech he delivered Thursday at a military parade held in the capital, Pyongyang, indicating that his previous attempts to negotiate with Washington did not achieve any significant progress, but rather confirmed the aggressive and hostile policy pursued by the United States against his country.

Kim explained that the current tensions are not the result of a misunderstanding on the part of the United States, but rather the result of what he called the hostile policy towards Pyongyang, which was emphasized in previous negotiations.

He added: We did our best in negotiations with the United States, and what was confirmed to us was the consistent hostile trend against North Korea.

Kim stressed the need to develop and modernize North Korea’s weapons arsenal, pledging to continue enhancing defense capabilities to enhance the country’s strategic position in the face of growing threats.

The exhibition highlighted North Korea’s latest strategic and tactical weapons, which the agency described as new creations from defense science and technology departments. The published images included tanks, missiles and anti-missile missile launchers, in addition to rifles and drones.

In a related context, North Korea last week ratified a mutual defense treaty with Russia, reflecting a military rapprochement between the two countries in the face of international pressure.
