Mobile companies sign quality penalty mechanisms
The mechanisms were signed by Engineer Mohamed Shamroukh, CEO of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Engineer Mohamed Nasr, CEO and Managing Director of Telecom Egypt, Engineer Yasser Shaker, CEO and Managing Director of Orange Egypt, and Engineer Mohamed Abdullah, CEO and Managing Director of Vodafone Egypt. And Engineer Hossam El-Maadawi, CEO of the Corporate Sector at A&E Egypt.
According to the new mechanisms, companies, in the event that they violate the quality standards and service performance levels specified in the licenses granted to them and determined by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, will use double the value of the financial penalties imposed on them, and under the supervision of the NTRA, to improve the coverage and quality of mobile services and cover geographical areas determined by the NTRA within a short period of time. , instead of paying financial penalties, which contributes to meeting the needs of citizens in obtaining services with high quality and more effectiveness, in addition to the efforts made by the agency to spread telecommunications services in remote areas. Throughout the Republic through the Universal Service Fund.
The new mechanisms also included motivating companies to strive to improve Egypt’s ranking in international indicators that monitor the level of performance of mobile services.
Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, confirmed that these new mechanisms aim to achieve a partnership between the two components of the communications and information technology sector, namely the government sector, and the private sector represented by mobile companies, in a way through which efforts are combined between the two sides to achieve the ultimate goal, which is serving the citizen.
He added that under these mechanisms, the value of penalties and fines imposed on mobile companies that violate quality standards will be doubled, and these revenues will be directed to implementing projects to improve the quality of telecommunications services provided to citizens and expand the coverage of mobile networks throughout the Republic, thus resulting in a positive return that benefits the citizen directly. .
Engineer Mohamed Shamroukh, CEO of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, confirmed that signing the new mechanisms for quality penalties reflects the agency’s commitment to achieving a balance between preserving the rights of citizens to obtain high-quality telecommunications services, and motivating mobile companies to continuously improve their performance, as these mechanisms aim to link Improving the quality of services directly serves the interests of citizens by directing sanctioning resources towards infrastructure development and enhancing network coverage in areas that need improvement.
He added that the agency will work to carefully follow up the implementation of these mechanisms to ensure that the desired goals are achieved.
