Japanese indices rise despite the contraction in factory activity for the fifth month in a row

Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.2%, while the Topix rose 0.4%, despite data showing factory activity in the country contracted for the fifth straight month in November.

South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.2%, while the Philippines’ PSEi composite rose 0.8%.

Malaysia’s FTSE KLCI rose 0.5%, Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Stock Index rose 0.2%, while India’s Nifty 50 futures index fell 0.2%.

Australia’s ASX 200 index rose 0.1% after data showed the country’s retail sales rose more than expected in October due to higher discretionary spending.
