iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus features, specifications and prices

To no one’s surprise, Apple announced the much-anticipated iPhone 14 lineup during its big event on September 7. As expected, we have four new iPhones, two “standard” iPhones and two “Pro” devices. While it’s always hard to choose a new phone, it’s especially tough this year.

The question is, which iPhone 14 model should I buy?

What’s new in iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus?

Let’s start with the “standard” iPhones: This year, Apple eliminated the iPhone from its accounts this year, which is disappointing. Obviously, this means that the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini haven’t sold as well as Apple had hoped, but it would have been nice to see an option for people who don’t want to carry a bulky smartphone.

We now have the usual 6.1-inch iPhone 14, but we also have the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus. This iPhone is the first to come in a larger form factor in a regular device other than the iPhone Pro. For this reason, Ael brought back the “Plus” title, given that the last Plus device was the iPhone 8 Plus.

The screen in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

Let’s talk more about those devices, like last year, they both have an OLED screen. The iPhone 14 has a resolution of 2,532 x 1,170 at 460 pixels per inch (ppi), while the iPhone 14 Plus has a resolution of 2,778 x 1,284 with 458 ppi. They both reach 800 nits brightness normally, but when viewing HDR content it can reach 1,200 nits.

Apple is quick to tout the iPhone 14 Plus’ battery life, calling it “the best battery in an iPhone” with up to 26 hours of video playback time. In comparison, the iPhone 14 got 20 hours of video playback. This being Apple, we don’t get metrics like mAh, or even a general display at the time, but I’m sure reviewers will do their best over the coming weeks to bring us these stats.

The processor in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

However, when it comes to performance, Apple has taken a controversial approach with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus as these devices use the A15 Bionic chip, the same processor found in the iPhone 13 lineup, which is why the new iPhone 14 appears to be identical to the specifications of the previous 13 phone.

This year, although the iPhone 14 is a new phone, but if you own an iPhone 13, this is not an attractive offer. If your iPhone is older than that, it may seem that you are better off buying a cheaper phone like the iPhone 13, at a cheaper price than the iPhone 14. It may be It is, but let’s take a look at some of the other new features first before making that judgement. While the A15 chip may be the same,

Camera features in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

The cameras have been improved, the 12-megapixel main camera has a larger sensor than last year, with an f/1.5 aperture that allows 49% more light to enter.

The 14 also comes with the Photonic Engine, which initiates Deep Fusion meaning it takes in more data, which it then uses to produce more detailed images. Apple has also improved low-light performance, which is always a welcome change.

However, my favorite camera addition is the selfie camera, where Apple has finally added autofocus. On all iPhones previously, we were stuck with fixed focus, but now the TrueDepth camera can follow focus, complete with an f/1.9 aperture lens. My second favorite camera addition is Action Mode, a new video stabilization feature that looked cool when it was demonstrated in Apple demos.

If it works like they say, it will be a game-changer for both home movies and filmmakers alike. And speaking of video, Cinema mode now supports 24 frames per second.

SIM card in iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

In a move I did not expect, Apple killed the SIM card and with it, everything is now eSIM, especially in the US versions.

Satellite communication on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus also come with Crash Detection, a new feature from Apple that uses a high dynamic range gyroscope to determine when you’ve been in an accident. Crash Detection contacts emergency services, shares your location, and alerts emergency contacts on your behalf. This feature is also new to the Apple Watch Series 8, and if you have both an iPhone 14 and an Apple Watch Series 8, they will work together to get you the help you need.

Another great safety feature is Emergency SOS via Satellite, which runs your Emergency SOS communications through satellites instead of cell towers. This is an excellent feature especially in areas with low or no cell service. It even guides you where to point your phone so you can always target satellites.
