Dr. Hisham Ahmed Abu Zaid, Deputy Governor, witnessed LuxorYesterday evening, Monday, the opening of the activities of the Luxor Arab Poetry Festival in its ninth session, which was held in the International Conference Hall.

The Deputy Governor of Luxor affirmed the governorate’s support for literary and cultural work and stressed his keenness to provide all aspects of support for everything that advances the citizen of Luxor, especially in the cultural and creative aspect.

The House of Poetry celebrates its journey for the ninth year in a row, continuing to present poetic and literary examples from poets and critics to the Egyptian and Arab cultural scene, in the presence of the cultural delegation from the sisterly Emirates, led by Abdullah Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture and Information in the Emirate of Sharjah, and Muhammad Al Qaseer, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The celebration began with the national anthem of the Arab Republic of Egypt, followed by the national anthem of the sister country of the Emirates, then a speech by the poet Hussein Al-Qabahi, director of the House of Poetry in Luxor, who spoke about the process of the House of Poetry over 9 years and what it presented to poets in general and to young poets in particular and about the vision of the House of Poetry in Luxor for the coming period. Then 3 poets sang their poems during the poetry evening, which was the main part of the opening ceremony and received the approval of the audience.

Abdullah Al Owais delivered a speech on behalf of Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, during which he spoke about the extent of cultural cooperation between the two countries and the care that the Ruler of Sharjah gives to Egyptian poets and intellectuals.

In his speech, Dr. Muhammad Nassif, Deputy Minister of Culture, welcomed the festival guests and stressed the support and encouragement of poets and writers and the Ministry of Culture’s keenness to support all young talents.

The ceremony concluded with a ceremony of honor, during which the House of Poetry presented the House of Poetry shield to Dr. Hisham Abu Zeid, Deputy Governor of Luxor, and a number of leaders of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, university presidents, the dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, and the curators of the Fine Arts Exhibition, which is held at the Faculty of Fine Arts on the sidelines of the festival.

The House of Poetry in Luxor honored Dr. Mohamed Hassani Ali, Director of the Egyptian Public Library in Luxor, and chose him as the Cultural Personality of the Year due to the tangible cultural movement he created in Luxor Street.

The ceremony was attended by a delegation from the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, represented by Dr. Osama Talaat, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Culture. And the head of the General Authority for Cultural Palaces, Dr. Muhammad Abdel Hafez Nassef,
Dr. Hamdi Satouhi, Head of the Central Administration of the Cultural Development Fund; Dr. Walid Qanoush, Head of the Fine Arts Sector at the Ministry of Culture, 50 poets from twenty Egyptian governorates, 50 visual artists, university presidents, college deans, community leaders, public and party figures, and civil society representatives.

It is worth noting that the Luxor Festival of Arabic Poetry, in its ninth session, will be held for four consecutive days, starting from the 18th to the 21st of November, and is full of many cultural events, critical seminars, and poetry evenings. The places for holding the events vary inside and outside the House of Poetry in Luxor.
