Conducted by Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs And Immigration, a visit to Port Sudan today, Tuesday, December 3, to deliver a message from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, to Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, President of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council.
This is the first visit of the Egyptian Foreign Minister to brotherly Sudan since the outbreak of the Sudanese crisis in April 2023, under the direction of the President of the Republic.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdel Ati stressed during the meeting with the President of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council the President of the Republic’s pride in the historical and fraternal relations between Egypt and Sudan, and his determination to make all possible efforts to achieve security and stability for Sudan, indicating that The visit comes to express sincere solidarity with Sudan at this dangerous historical juncture, and to stand by a sister country in light of the deep ties and fraternal relations between the two brotherly peoples.
Matching visions about the Nile River
Abdel-Ati stressed Egypt’s keenness to engage effectively in regional and international efforts aimed at achieving stability in brotherly Sudan, in a way that preserves its interests, sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting Egypt’s efforts to have Sudan resume its activities in the African Union.
The official spokesman added that the visit to Port Sudan also witnessed an official consultation session between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his Sudanese counterpart, Dr. Ali Youssef El-Sherif, in the presence of the delegations of the two countries, where Minister Abdel-Aty stressed Egypt’s full support for the leadership and people of Sudan, and Egypt’s keenness to make efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
He reviewed Egypt’s position calling for an immediate ceasefire and accelerating the pace of the entry of humanitarian aid, and pointed out the importance of cooperation with United Nations initiatives, its agencies, and international relief organizations to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid.
The two sides were keen to discuss the issue of water security in detail, in light of the identical positions of the two countries as two estuary states on the Nile River, and they agreed to continue coordination and close cooperation jointly to preserve and maintain Egyptian and Sudanese water security.
Minister Abdel-Ati’s visit included a meeting with Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jaber, member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, where he stressed Egypt’s firm position based on supporting Sudanese national institutions and respecting the unity and integrity of Sudanese lands.
Minister Abdel-Ati also held a meeting with representatives of the Sudanese business community to enhance cooperation between businessmen from the two countries, explore joint investment opportunities, benefit from the enormous opportunities offered by the Egyptian economy, and work to double trade exchange between the two brotherly countries.
He also met with a group of politicians and civil society representatives from Sudan, as well as a meeting with members of the Egyptian community in Port Sudan, where he listened to their concerns and interventions.
