Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the report monitors cases of acute respiratory diseases that are frequent or detained in all of the Ministry’s hospitals, numbering 542 hospitals across the governorates of the Republic, in addition to the sites selected for monitoring acute respiratory diseases and influenza-like diseases, which number 28 sites distributed over 14 governorates. Samples are taken and examined in the Ministry’s central laboratories and regional laboratories in the governorates.
Abdul Ghaffar revealed that the number of samples that were examined during the month of October, according to the report, amounted to 1,478 cases, and the percentage of positive cases for influenza was 4%, adding that the distribution of the percentage of positive cases included 11% for the Flu A/pdm09H1 virus, while the percentage for the Flu A/H3 virus was 50%. % and Flu B virus by 39%.
Abdul Ghaffar added that the number of samples that were examined during October of last year was 2,576 samples, and the percentage of positive cases of influenza was 14%, the percentage of Flu A/pdm09H1 virus was 88%, the percentage of Flu A/H3 virus was 1%, while the percentage of Flu B virus was 1%. About 10%, in addition to 1% for the Mixed virus.
Abdel Ghaffar explained that the highest type of influenza virus prevalent in Egypt during last October was the Flu A/H3 virus, with 50% of positive samples, indicating that the prevalence of influenza viruses this year decreased by 10% compared to last year, stressing that no viruses or viruses were detected.
