Ensuring the alignment of action plans with national development vision, strategies and programmes

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation – in her capacity as Chair of the Joint Steering Committee for the Strategic Framework for the Partnership between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Nations for Sustainable Development 2023-2027 – held a coordination meeting to discuss the results sets for the strategic framework for the partnership between Egypt and the United Nations, in the presence of Dr. Maya Morsi. , Minister of Social Solidarity, Mohamed Gibran, Minister of Labor, Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women, and representatives of the Ministries of Health, Population, and Finance, Environment, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, and other relevant parties.

During the meeting, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat said that this meeting is considered an inauguration of the work of the work results groups of the strategic framework for the partnership between Egypt and the United Nations for cooperation for sustainable development, which was coordinated in a participatory manner with various ministries, national agencies, and development partners, stressing that the strategic framework The partnership is consistent with the objectives of several national initiatives such as the National Human Rights Strategy, the National Sustainable Energy Strategy 2035, the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, and the Presidential Initiative (A Decent Life).

She explained that the results sets for the five axes of the strategic framework of the partnership, which are enhancing human capital, comprehensive and sustainable economic development, resilience in the face of climate change, efficient management of natural resources, governance, transparency and effective participation, and the comprehensive empowerment of women and girls politically, socially and economically, stressing that all efforts made with The United Nations ultimately aims to achieve economic development and drive economic growth, and it is also consistent with what the government is doing in the current period at the level of governance of investment spending and enhancing efforts to empower the private sector.

Al-Mashat stressed the importance of following up on the results of the working groups periodically every three months to know the achievements that have been achieved and the various challenges and how to confront them, with a focus during each follow-up meeting on the results of programs and projects related to one of the important topics that falls within the priorities of the government program and Egypt’s Vision 2030, such as digital transformation. , governance, women, climate change, reducing illegal immigration, youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, and other topics.

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat explained that there are a set of main tasks and activities for the results groups of the strategic framework for the partnership between Egypt and the United Nations, which are to ensure the alignment of joint action plans with Egypt’s Vision 2030, the main national strategies and programmes, and to participate in discussions on joint policies with the participation of the government and relevant parties on issues. In addition to preparing and updating joint work plans annually in order to achieve the outcomes of the cooperation framework, identifying opportunities, reviewing progress towards the common outcomes and monitoring those outcomes in The annual United Nations country results report, in addition to holding key group meetings in order to review the progress made in achieving the results across the relevant areas of cooperation, in preparation for their adoption by the joint United Nations-Government of Egypt Steering Committee headed by the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation and the Resident Coordinator. For her part, Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, proposed adding two topics to the main topics that will be discussed in the upcoming periodic meetings, which are the file of the transition from social protection to economic empowerment, and the file related to the National Program for the Development of the Egyptian Family, because of their important impact.

The Minister of Social Solidarity pointed out the importance of the role of the pastoral economy, especially since the government seeks to raise the proportion of women’s work, which can be achieved by paying attention to the pastoral economy, provided that there is coordination with the Ministry of Labor, the National Council for Women, and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, and the United Nations, launched the new strategic framework for cooperation with the United Nations for the period from 2023-2027, during May of last year, following extensive consultations that began in 2021, with the participation of about 30 national bodies from ministries, agencies and councils.
