Ihab Wassef, head of the Precious Metals and Jewelry Division in the Chamber of Mineral Industries of the Federation of Industries, expects that Egypt will become among the 20 most important exporters of gold jewelry during 2025-2026, and that Cairo will become among the 10 most important exporters of gold in the world during 2027.
Wassef added that in 2022, Egypt was ranked 94th globally in exports of gold jewelry, and currently we have reached 54th place by the end of 2023, as a result of coordination between the Metals Division and government agencies, led by the Ministry of Supply and the Stamps and Weights Authority.
Ihab Wassef expected that Egypt would advance in the export of gold jewelry to become among the 30 most important exporters in the world by the end of 2024, as a result of the removal of gold export restrictions and appraisal fees, which was reflected in the performance of gold exports since the announcement of the removal of these fees.
He added during the press conference to announce the fourth edition of the Nebiu Gold and Jewelry Exhibition, scheduled to be held from December 15 to 17, that Egypt has jumped strongly in exports of gold jewelry during a record time over the last 3 years, and we are currently competing with international products in major markets.
