Major General Dr. Muhammad Al-Zamlot, Governor of the New Valley, visited the Enterprise Development Agency, where he was received by Mr. Basil Rahmi, the Agency’s CEO. The two sides held a meeting with the participation of a group of officials from the Agency and the governorate, during which they discussed activating cooperation mechanisms between the agency and the governorate.
The meeting discussed a number of important topics to expand the activities of the development apparatus in the New Valley Governorate, provide means of support to owners of medium and small projects, especially projects specialized in agricultural production, and encourage young people and citizens in the governorate to establish new projects or expand existing projects to provide more decent job opportunities for the people of the governorate and raise Their economic level.
Rahmi stressed that the meeting discussed the mechanisms for implementing the directives of the political leadership to localize the silk industry in Egypt and coordination between the New Valley Governorate and the agency to develop a joint action plan to localize this important industry by providing the necessary expertise and funding through international partner agencies and in coordination with the concerned authorities in the state, headed by the Ministry of Agriculture. Land reclamation and developing an integrated map of the stages of production and manufacturing.
Rahmi added that the preparation of an economic feasibility study for the project will begin, and a proposed model will be implemented in two villages in each center of the governorate as a nucleus for replicating the model in other areas inside and outside the governorate after implementing and evaluating the experience, noting that the plan will include providing silk thread production machines and establishing a production factory. Silkworm eggs in the governorate to contribute to reducing Egyptian imports of raw silk and expanding the production of seedlings of Indian mulberry trees in coordination with specialized research centers to provide mulberry leaves, which are considered the main source of nutrition for silkworms that produce silk.
For his part, Major General Dr. Muhammad Al-Zamlot, Governor of the New Valley, explained that the governorate had launched an initiative to localize the natural silk industry in the governorate, as part of efforts to revive silk production and industry, as it allocated approximately 2,500 acres at the governorate level to expand mulberry cultivation projects, in addition to establishing (25 ) A factory equipped for silk production and silkworm breeding, as well as cooperation with many local and international experts to provide rare seedlings and good varieties of berries for cultivation, and holding courses Training to provide trained manpower in this field.
Al-Zamlot expressed his deep appreciation for the continued cooperation with the agency, which contributes to providing job opportunities, and supports and develops small and medium-sized youth projects.
