Dr. Ahmed Ali Suleiman, member of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, and Islamic preacher, explained the ruling on burning the clothes of the deceased before forty; To sever the connection between him and the world.

Islamic preacher: Burning the clothes of the deceased before the age of forty to sever his connection with the world is a strange custom and not part of Sharia

Suleiman wrote on his account on the social networking site Facebook: Some societies may tend to burn the clothes of the deceased out of the belief that this breaks the relationship between him and the world, or for fear that they will be used for bad things, but this belief has no legal basis, adding: There is no In Islam, there is a legal text or evidence that requires burning the clothes of the deceased before the fortieth day or at any time.

Suleiman continued: This custom may be inherited in some cultures, environments and societies, but it is not one of the teachings of the Islamic religion.

He continued: What do we do with the deceased’s clothes?

1. Use or Donate:

– This is because the deceased’s clothes can be distributed to the needy as ongoing charity for him, which is desirable.

– It can also be used by family members if it is appropriate, and there is nothing wrong with it.

2. Cleaning and disinfection:

– If the deceased’s clothes are dirty or contain impurity, it is preferable to wash them so that they are fit for use or donation.

He pointed out that the bottom line is that Islam calls for dealing with matters rationally and wisely and in a way that benefits the deceased and the living, adding: Instead of burning, it is desirable for clothes to be exploited, either by using them or donating them as an ongoing charity that increases the good deeds of the deceased.
