We are only a few days away from the end of the Public Stores Law, which concerns the issuance of licenses for commercial stores, in accordance with the new Law No. 154 of 2019, and the period will end on December 11 of next month.
In this regard, the Public Stores Law provided shop owners with a period of two years to legalize the conditions of shops with old licenses, while the law allowed shops located in illegal properties the possibility of obtaining an annual license to be renewed for a period of 5 years until the conditions of the illegal property are reconciled.
The value of public store license fees
The Ministry of Local Development determined the value of public store license fees, depending on the nature of the commercial activity and area, in addition to the geographical location of the activity or commercial store to be licensed.
The Public Stores Law stipulated the value of the fees due from the sums of money to obtain licenses for commercial shops, according to the area related to the activity, and the geographical location in the various places in the capitals, governorates, and new cities, so that the financial amounts are calculated according to the area and geographical location.
Papers required to obtain commercial shop licenses
Regarding the papers required to obtain commercial shop licenses in accordance with the law, they are as follows:
A copy of the national ID card of the license applicant.
A copy of the passport after reviewing the original if the license applicant is a foreigner, and a copy of the Ministry of Labor’s approval.
A power of attorney in the event that the license holder does not attend in person.
A copy of the shop’s contract after review, which is valid and includes the type of activity.
A copy of the property license or a request to legalize the property’s status.
A drawing showing the store’s location and information
A copy of the tax card after reviewing the original.
An official extract from the commercial register.
Health certificates.
A statement from the Planning Department regarding the location of the store in the event of a building permit or legalization of the property’s status.
An engineering report on the structural safety of the property in the absence of a building permit.
Public Stores Law
The concerned agencies are intensifying their daily campaigns against all establishments and stores that are run without a license, through the district executive agencies and the Directorate of Supply and Veterinary Medicine, and are also launching daily campaigns against restaurants. To determine the quality of food and the expiration date of food items provided to citizens, and to remove occupancy.
The Public Stores Law stipulates the conditions for licensing commercial stores, stipulating that it is not permissible to open a commercial store without a license from the competent center, in accordance with the controls and requirements determined by the committee.
The Commercial Shops Law stipulates that anyone who operates a commercial store without obtaining a license will be punished with a fine of not less than 20,000 pounds and not more than 50,000 pounds, and the penalty amounts to imprisonment if they return for a period of not less than 6 months.
