The Egyptian Medicines Authority issued an important warning regarding the need to use antibiotics with caution, in conjunction with World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week.
The Saudi Medicines Authority warns: Antibiotics are not the solution for every disease
The Egyptian Medicines Authority confirmed in a publication that antibiotics are only used to treat bacterial infections, and have no effect on viruses such as those that cause colds or influenza.
The authority noted that indiscriminate or unnecessary use of antibiotics may lead to the emergence of resistance in microbes, which threatens public health and makes it difficult to treat infections in the future.
The authority advised citizens to consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking any antibiotic, to ensure the actual need for it, stressing the importance of raising community awareness about the correct use of these medications to protect current and future generations.
These recommendations come within the framework of global efforts to reduce microbial drug resistance, which is one of the biggest health challenges facing humanity today.
On the other hand, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, received, yesterday, Monday, Ambassador Mohamed Tareed Sufyan, Ambassador of the State of Malaysia to Egypt, and his accompanying delegation, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in the sector. Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting addressed many issues of common interest, as the focus was on creating new investment opportunities in the health sector, which contributes to improving the quality of health services provided to citizens.
