Dr. Mohamed Al-Mansy, head of the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, announced that additional checks on Egyptian citrus fruits exported to European Union countries as a result of pesticide residues have been reduced to 20% instead of 30%. The situation will be reviewed again during the year 2025 to consider removing citrus fruits and some other crops from the list of goods subject to checks. Additionally, which contributes to increasing Egyptian agricultural exports to European markets.
In a related context, the head of the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine heads to the city of Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, as a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation to participate in the meetings of the Egyptian-Tajak Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, which will be held during the period 2-3 December, where negotiations are underway to enhance cooperation in the fields of quarantine. Agricultural, plant health, veterinary quarantine, and fisheries, in addition to increasing trade exchange between the two sides.
Examinations of Egyptian citrus fruits exported to the European Union
For his part, Engineer Islam Abu El-Ela, supervisor of the phytosanitary unit at the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, said that he participated in the meetings of the Subcommittee on Industry, Trade, Services and Investment between Egypt and the European Union, which were held at the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels. During his participation, the increase in the volume of Egyptian agricultural exports to European Union countries was discussed, which he pointed out. Representatives of the Commission indicated an increase of 41% compared to previous years, and they discussed reducing additional checks on some products, as well as discussing the position of imported potato seeds and some other topics.
It is worth noting that starting tomorrow, December 1, the door will open for exporting Egyptian citrus fruits to global markets for the new export season 2024/2025.
