A state of sadness prevailed in the cultural community after the death of the great poet Muhammad Ibrahim Abu Sunna At the age of 87, after a struggle with illness, intellectuals expressed their deep sadness over the death of Abu Sunna, considering his death a loss to the literary movement.
Dr. Alaa Abdel Hadi, President of the Egyptian Writers Union, mourned him, saying: “I offer, in my name and in the name of the Board of Directors of the General Syndicate of the Egyptian Writers Union, and in the name of the General Secretariat of the General Union of Arab Writers, my sincere condolences on the death of the dear friend and great poet of Arabic, Muhammad Ibrahim Abu Sunna, with whose death Arabic lost its voice.” A wonderful piece of poetry that is rarely found. Oh God, cover him with your vast mercy and make him dwell in your spacious gardens, and grant his family, loved ones, and friends patience and solace. We grieve and say only what pleases God. We belong to God and to Him we shall return.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Saghir, professor of literary criticism at New Valley University, wrote: The poet Muhammad Ibrahim Abu Sunna has passed away. The poetic movement in the Arab world today has lost the great poet Muhammad Ibrahim Abu Sunnah 1937-2024.
He added: Abu Sunna is a poet from the sixties generation and one of the pioneers of the realistic free poetry movement. He presented many poetic works, including Mirrors of the Distant Day, Nile Dances, Roses of the Last Seasons, Reflections on Stone Cities, Dream Music, The Winter Garden, and Evening Bells.
