Dr. Ahmed Al-Qasid, President of Menoufia University, chaired a committee discussing a master’s thesis at the Faculty of Medicine, which discussed the relationship between the CA15-3 level in the blood and clinical and biological indicators in a breast cancer patient, presented by Dr. Ahmed Atef Mohamed Al-Ghazawi.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Qassed stressed the importance of this research in early detection of breast tumors and monitoring the development of the disease. He explained that CA 15.3 is a biological molecule that is usually secreted by breast cells. In breast cancer patients, malignant cells are secreted in a larger amount and can enter the bloodstream. The molecule is secreted less in a localized breast tumor, and in advanced stages of the disease, the test is very useful to verify the diagnosis.
The supervision and discussion committee included Dr. Ahmed Farag Al-Qassed, Professor of Oncology Surgery and President of Menoufia University, Dr. Suleiman El-Khass, Professor of General Surgery and Oncology Surgery, Dr. Mohamed Sabry Ammar, Professor of General Surgery and Oncology Surgery, Dr. Hossam Ghazi Al-Banna, Professor of General Surgery and Oncology Surgery at Mansoura Faculty of Medicine, and Dr. Fatima Ibrahim. Youssef is a lecturer in general surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Menoufia University.
