New trains and the return of the Sinai line…an Egyptian story on the railway

Since the day President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi took power in 2014, he has intended to build a new Egypt. That is why he has set his sights on the most important sectors that serve Egyptians, and drawn up a comprehensive plan to develop them in order to provide a service befitting the Egyptian citizen on the one hand, and to keep pace with global developments on the other hand. .

One of the most important sectors that President Sisi has paid great attention to developing is the railway sector, for which he allocated 225 billion pounds to implement a comprehensive development plan for it.

Indeed, the plan to develop the railway system was based on 5 main axes, which included developing mobile units, infrastructure, signaling systems, production workshops, and developing the human element, with the aim of raising transport capacity and maximizing the transport of passengers and goods on the network lines, and also raising rates of safety and security and reducing the rate of resulting carbon emissions. About trucking.

Therefore, it is targeted to increase passenger transport capacity from 1.2 million passengers per day in 2014 to 1.5 million passengers per day in 2024, and 2 million passengers per day in 2030.

The development plan, of course, also aims to increase the capacity of transporting goods from about 5 million tons annually in 2014 to 8 million tons annually in 2024 and 13 million tons annually in 2030.

For this reason, 210 new GE tractors were supplied out of a total, and the efficiency of 92 other tractors was increased, and 6 new Spanish luxury trains called “Talgo” were also arrived and operated at a cost of 157 million euros. Also, 946 wagons were arrived and operated out of a total contract to supply 1,350 new passenger wagons at a cost of 1 1 billion euros from the Hungarian company Jansmavage.

Adding to this, the rehabilitation of 1,354 regular train cars out of a total of 1,404 cars planned for rehabilitation has been completed, and this is in addition to the arrival of 527 cars out of a total of 1,215 goods cars of various models from the SEMAF factory.

The plan did not stop at the arrival of new trains and increasing the efficiency of the old ones, because it also extended to developing the railway infrastructure, with the aim of securing the route of trains, increasing safety and security rates on the network lines, and reducing accidents.

For this reason, 699 slipways were developed, railway tracks with a total length of 1,382 km were renewed, 307 railway stations were developed out of about 100 stations, and the rest were gradually operated.

And other projects, such as installing electronic gates at railway stations such as the metro, and developing signaling systems in order to avoid errors in the old system that was controlled by the human element, and in which accidents could have occurred due to human errors.

Adding to all this is the opening of new projects, such as the giant Bashteel station, which will enter the Guinness Book of World Records due to the beauty of its design and the services it provides. It is a gift from President Sisi to the passengers of Upper Egypt. New lines have also returned, such as the Sinai line, or the Al-Ferdan line, and trains have returned to plow the land of turquoise again, so that We assure the world that we are in a completely different place, and we are developing everything in the land of Sinai.

All of these projects aim to increase safety and security rates, increase the number of trains and trips on the lines, and also reduce travel time and provide train rides at any time at a lower cost than other transportation, as well as with the highest safety rates.

All of this and we are still talking about the railway, but we have not yet talked about other means of smart transportation such as the monorail, the new metro lines, the high-speed electric train, and the light train. We will talk about it in detail.. but follow us..
