TikTok is pushing to enhance its AI capabilities, and today it is directing this shift to direct messaging, with the aim of improving user engagement using GIFs.
The company confirmed that it will allow users to quickly access the ideal animated images for a response, even if they are unable to remember the requested image at the same moment, through its new feature that relies on the current Giphy library.
Shutterstock, which owns Giphy, is integrating its API into TikTok’s messaging interface, allowing the app’s “recommendation engine” to choose the most appropriate and relevant GIFs for each conversation, with the goal of making communication more interactive and expressive.
The GIF selection feature was described as a “seamless and intuitive” addition to the TikTok application, and this feature is expected to be released either in the fourth quarter of 2024 or in the first quarter of 2025.
