Netanyahu explained that he made the decisive decision during his visit to New York last September, noting that a lengthy discussion took place between him and members of the Israeli government about implementing the operation, as many of them expressed their objection to it.
Netanyahu indicated that he decided to assassinate Nasrallah during his trip to New York last September, prior to his speech before the United Nations, and said: I boarded the presidential plane, which has a secure communications system, and slept for two hours, then I picked up the phone and spoke to the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff. I told them: I have decided, we will go after him, and we will take all the risks, it is worth the risk.
After the plane landed in New York, Netanyahu held a security cabinet meeting by phone to approve the decision, noting that he told the ministers that Washington could be informed of the strike, but only after the fighters were already in the air.
He said in the interview: They told me that I bear all the risks, but I thought it was worth the risk.
Netanyahu denied reports that his trip to New York to attend UN meetings was aimed at deceiving Nasrallah.
