This comes in accordance with the protocol signed between the Damietta Port Authority and the Italian port of Trieste to facilitate the sustainable operation of the RoRo cargo transport line between Egypt and Italy using trucks.

This project comes within the Egyptian government’s strategy to support Egyptian exports to Europe and achieve economic integration in the Mediterranean region. The line aims to reduce the time and cost of transporting goods between the two countries, which contributes to supporting the Egyptian economy, by enhancing the movement of agricultural and industrial exports and creating new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries. The opening is scheduled to take place in the presence of Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Ambassador Michele Quaroni, Italian Ambassador to Cairo, Major General Nehad Shaheen, Deputy Minister of Transport for Maritime Transport, Major General Reda Ismail, Head of the Maritime Transport Sector, and Major General Tarek Adly, Head of Damietta Port, Major General Ahmed Hawash, Head of Alexandria Port, and Major General Mohamed Abdel Rahim, Head of the Red Sea Ports Authority.

The new route is characterized by a reduction in ferry crossing times, as the first flight is scheduled to depart tomorrow, departing from the port of Damietta to the port of Trieste, and transportation operations will be carried out on weekly flights departing from each port, leaving the port of Damietta on Friday, while departing from the port of Trieste on Monday, with a duration of… An estimated time of approximately 68 hours.

The RoRo line serves Egypt as a port for transporting agricultural and other goods to Europe, which contributes to enhancing Egypt’s exports to the continent, thanks to the cooperation agreements between the two countries. The line is expected to contribute to reducing transportation costs and fees, as the Egyptian state reduced port fees by up to 88% and traffic fees. On-road prices reach $100 per truck, making it one of the most competitive lines in the region.
