It is noteworthy that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong, on the sidelines of the President’s participation in the G20 summit meetings in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the two sides discussed ways to develop bilateral cooperation, stressing their pride in the relations that bring together the two countries, and their aspiration for the coming period to witness further development, including raising the level of economic cooperation, increasing investments, and activating bilateral dialogue mechanisms at various levels.

The interview also touched on cultural relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them, especially with regard to student exchange, through scholarships provided by Al-Azhar to Singaporean students, as well as scholarships provided by Singaporean education and training institutions to Egyptian students, as the Singaporean Prime Minister was keen to praise the important role played by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in the field of education and introducing moderate Islam.

The official spokesman added that the interview also dealt with regional and international situations, as the Prime Minister of Singapore listened to the president’s vision regarding the situation in the Middle East and its political and economic impacts on the international arena, and ways to restore regional stability, and the Singaporean side’s keenness to value the pivotal Egyptian role in restoring stability in the region and preventing the region’s slide.
