The United States of America announced the recording of the first case of smallpox infection Monkeys Imbox, which was first discovered in eastern Congo, according to media reports.

Officials with the United States Department of Health explained that the person had traveled to East Africa and received treatment in Northern California upon his return, according to the California Department of Public Health, indicating that his health condition is improving and that the risk of the disease spreading is low.

Health officials said earlier this month that the situation in Congo appeared to be stable, while the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that Congo needed at least 3 million monkeypox vaccines to stop its spread, in addition to another 7 million vaccines for the rest of Africa.

The current outbreak differs from the global outbreak of monkeypox in 2022, in which gay and bisexual men accounted for the vast majority of cases.

It is noteworthy that monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with a virus that belongs to the same family as the virus that causes smallpox. This disease is considered endemic in some parts of Africa, where people become infected by biting rodents or small animals.

Mild symptoms of the disease include fever, chills and body aches, and in more serious cases, people may develop lesions on the face, hands, chest and genitals.
