Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, reviewed during today’s Board of Governors meeting, headed by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Chairman cabinetThe most prominent outcomes of World Cities Day, which included emphasizing Alexandria’s role as a pioneering model for sustainable urban development, the government’s commitment to sustainable development goals through innovative environmental policies, keenness to strengthen international and local cooperation efforts to achieve comprehensive development, and encouraging investments in coastal cities to enhance economic growth. And support local communities to ensure balance and adaptation to urban challenges.

The Minister also presented the most prominent outcomes of the World Urban Forum, which included urgent work to confront the global housing crisis, achieving global goals through local action, ensuring systematic and continuous representation of local entities at all levels, sharing urban spaces and opportunities comprehensively, and urban planning to achieve local results. Better, providing financing for cities and communities, achieving justice and equality for sustainable cities, benefiting from local data in decision-making, employing culture and heritage as components of sustainability, and building alliances to increase local impact.
Dr. Manal Awad then reviewed the Ministry’s efforts in the file of reconciliation of building violations nationwide, noting that the total number of reconciliation requests reached 2,941,590 requests, explaining that the number of requests that were completed from July 1, 2024 until the end of October 2024 reached 900 thousand applications, in addition to applications that were completed before this period.
The Minister also presented what the Ministry of Local Development accomplished in the file of legalizing and reclaiming state lands during the period from July 1, 2024 until October 31, 2024, explaining that the total requests during this period amounted to 208,256 requests, reviewing in this context the percentages of completion achieved during the period from July 1, 2024 until November 1, which resulted in the signing of 84,783 contracts and the recovery of 12,064 acres, indicating that all applications are scheduled to be completed during the next year according to the specified time plan.
The Minister of Local Development added that as of July 1, 2024, 8 governorates had exceeded 70% regarding the rate of legalization and recovery of state lands, and as of November 1, 15 governorates had exceeded 70%.
In a related context, Dr. Manal Awad presented the position of accreditation of urban seminaries, explaining that the accreditation of urban seminaries in 230 cities has been completed by 100%, and the urban seminaries of villages have been accredited by 96%, in addition to that the accreditation of urban seminaries in Estates, villages and hamlets by about 70%.
Dr. Manal Awad also reviewed the efforts made by the Ministry to control commodity prices and ensure their stability and availability in the markets, noting that the Ministry carries out periodic follow-up and strict control over prices to ensure their stability, noting that it is working to provide basic commodities in sufficient quantities in the markets, through Cooperation with leading suppliers and merchants.
The Minister explained that in cooperation with other concerned authorities, such as the Ministry of Supply, the Armed Forces, and the Ministry of Interior, exhibitions and fixed and mobile displays are being held to provide goods at reasonable prices. This includes outlets affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, the Armed Forces, and the Ministry of Agriculture, which are located in many regions across the Republic.
Dr. Manal Awad indicated that the Ministry of Local Development is working to encourage civil society organizations to contribute to increasing the supply of goods and products at reasonable prices, especially in areas with high population density and poor areas.
She added that the Ministry is organizing seasonal initiatives to provide goods, in coordination with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, such as “Welcome Ramadan,” which offers discounts on food commodities, as well as organizing exhibitions to sell food supplies at reduced prices during the season.
The Minister of Local Development also referred to the Ministry’s efforts in distributing food cartons to the most needy families, explaining that coordination is taking place between the Ministry and the concerned authorities to ensure a fair distribution of food cartons to the families most in need of care, especially during the month of Ramadan, to ensure that support reaches the deserving groups.
