We are working to improve the maritime services system

Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, participated in the meetings of the Housing, Local Administration and Transport Committee in the Senate, headed by Major General Khaled Mohamed Saeed, Chairman of the Committee, and in the presence of the Committee’s rapporteurs and representatives of the Committee’s members, at the Senate headquarters.

The meeting aimed to discuss the proposed amendments to both Draft Law No. (84) of 1949 regarding the registration of commercial ships, and the draft Maritime Trade Law of 1990.

At the beginning of his visit, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Authority, met with Representative Phoebe Fawzi, Representative of the Senate, where she received him and was keen to convey the greetings of Counselor Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek, Chairman of the Senate, and his appreciation for the effective participation of the Suez Canal Authority in discussing amendments to draft laws related to the field of maritime transport.

The Undersecretary of the Senate praised the integration and comprehensiveness of the Authority’s development strategy to enhance the Authority’s capabilities and capabilities at all levels, expressing her appreciation for the continuation of development plans in a race against time to achieve an ambitious future vision that has not stopped despite successive and unprecedented challenges at the international and regional levels.

During his participation, Lieutenant General Rabie appreciated the efforts made by the Senate in drafting and adding basic amendments to draft laws and contributing to strengthening the legislative environment by establishing regulatory controls that are compatible with the actual needs of the Egyptian state and contribute effectively to advancing development in all fields.

The Chairman of the Authority called for adding some provisions that regulate marine rescue work in agencies and entities working in this vital field, and setting controls and conditions binding on the parties concerned and those dealing with this law.

The Chairman of the Authority confirmed that the Suez Canal has succeeded in taking serious steps towards improving the system of maritime and logistical services provided by it and adding new services that meet customer requirements in normal and emergency circumstances and contribute to placing the Suez Canal in the appropriate position as a regional center for providing various services, in parallel with the completion of the implementation of plans. Developing the navigational course of the canal, noting in this regard that the project to develop the southern sector of the canal with both parts is nearing completion, becoming an important addition towards raising the factor of navigational safety and increasing capacity. The capacity of the canal, the results of which were clearly evident in the success of the largest qualitative crossing in the history of the canal with the crossing of the “Dourado” floating dock.

For their part, the members of the committee praised the efforts made by the Suez Canal Authority to confront the repercussions of the current conditions in the Red Sea region and their negative effects on navigation rates in the canal, and the authority’s direction to deal flexibly with the crisis by diversifying sources of income by creating new services that did not exist before, and adopting giant national projects. To localize marine industries.
