An artist spends an entire year cutting the longest strip of paper in the world

Artist Pai, also known as Hotz Pai, is no stranger to the Guinness World Records, as he once folded the most origami flowers made from a single sheet of paper, 100, and then created the largest origami snail ever.

This year he embarked on his most challenging attempt to set a record to date, cutting the longest continuous strip of paper from a single A4 sheet. Technically, it should have been a walk in the park for this origami master, as the length required was 2.5 meters is modest, but he challenged himself to cut the longest strip possible, so he spent about a year experimenting with different types of paper, cutting techniques and tools, and in the end, he was able to cut a thin, continuous strip 108.15 meters long.

Hotz Bee told Guinness World Records: The tape I created was 108.15 meters long and 0.5 millimeters wide, and the entire process, from initial preparation to trials and errors to the formal attempt and final artwork, between chaos and order, took approximately one year.

To maximize his chances of success, the talented artist first had to decide which medium was best suited to the challenges, and eventually settled on a silver piece of A4 paper with a reflective, mirror-like surface. Once that was done, he had to figure out the best way to cut, and although he experimented with a few techniques and tools However, it has been found that the more primitive option of cutting with scissors is the most effective.

“This world record was a personal challenge to explore the limits of the topological transformation of this single leaf,” Bai added.
