Cairo – Mubasher: Ashraf Al-Daoudi, Governor of Qena, said that cane is one of the strategic crops that characterize the governorate, as the cultivated area is estimated at 116.61 thousand acres, producing 5.6 million tons of raw cane, representing 36.5 percent of the Republic’s total sugar cane production.
This came during the governor’s visit today, Sunday, to the Qus Sugar Factory on the occasion of the start of the new juice season. He was received by Muhammad Ibrahim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the factory, and a number of workers from various departments of the factory, according to the Middle East News Agency.
During his visit, the governor was briefed on the processes and stages that the crop goes through, starting with the processes of shipping, unloading, squeezing, heating and processing, until it reaches a final product, motivating the factory workers to make more efforts to advance this industry because it is one of the strategic industries.
He stressed that the state is sparing no effort to develop cane cultivation through experiments and research carried out by research centers to grow new varieties with high productivity and better resistance to diseases and pests.
For his part, Mohamed Ibrahim, Chairman of the Factory’s Board of Directors, explained that the season this year is promising in terms of productivity, and the cane-breaking plan is proceeding at an accelerated pace after the internal and external roads for agricultural tractors in the factory were expanded, with special vehicles provided to transport the cane from the places where it is broken.
He pointed out that there is daily follow-up conducted by the factory management with the agricultural departments to ensure that there are no obstacles.
He noted the economic importance of the sugarcane crop due to its connection to many other industries, such as crystallized sugar, molasses, artificial honey, alcohol and all its derivatives, vinegar and glacial acetic acid, feed yeast, carbon dioxide gas, vinasse, organic solvents and adhesives, sodium sulfate, and fresh baking yeast. And dry goods, perfumes and cosmetics, aromatic oils and pastes, flavor and scent additives, and artificial wood.
