Cairo – Live: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a session of discussions with Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, who is currently on a visit to Cairo.
Ahmed Hafez, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement issued today, Sunday, that within the framework of ongoing consultation and coordination between the two brotherly countries, Shukri discussed with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of the Kingdom of Jordan the strengthening of bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments.
This came during a meeting between Sameh Shukri, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ayman Al-Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in the presence of the new Jordanian Ambassador to Cairo, Amjad Al-Adaileh, who presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Shukri during the meeting.
Hafezn stated that the two ministers stressed during the meeting the centrality of the bilateral relations between Cairo and Amman, which is reflected in the keenness on periodic consultation and coordination, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership in the two countries, and in a way that advances bilateral relations between Egypt and Jordan, and contributes to strengthening the pillars of security and stability in the region.
He explained that the two ministers focused during the meeting on ways to support the Palestinian issue, as Minister Shukri informed his Jordanian counterpart of the results of the contacts that Egypt recently conducted with various parties concerned with the Palestinian issue, as part of the ongoing preparations for holding the next meeting of the Quartet, which includes Egypt, Jordan, Germany, and France.
He pointed out that Cairo is scheduled to host it tomorrow with the aim of moving peace efforts in the region, and resolving the current stalemate witnessed by the Palestinian issue by urging the Palestinian and Israeli sides to negotiate to reach a just and comprehensive political settlement on the basis of the two-state solution, and in a way that guarantees the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state. He added that the meeting witnessed consensus in visions regarding regional and international developments, especially in Syria, Libya and Yemen. The two ministers stressed the need to stop destructive foreign interference in Arab countries, and stressed the importance of reaching peaceful solutions to these crises in accordance with Arab national security considerations.
