5 million pounds, the value of sales of Tosinor syrup… and the authority decides to withdraw packages from the market for the second time

For the second time this year, the Egyptian Medicines Authority issued a decision to withdraw packages of Tussinor syrup, which is used to relieve coughs in cases of colds and influenza. It attributed the reason both times to non-compliance of the batch by the authority’s laboratories, and only 3 months separated the two decisions.

in First timeLast August, the Drug Authority decided to withdraw and stop the circulation of 3 batches of Tosinor syrup on the market, namely: “M3006222, M2028723, and M2028423.” The second time this November included a decision to withdraw and stop the circulation of one batch of the drug, which is: “M2028823”.

Sales of Tosinor Syrup, produced by Mash Premier, during the first nine months of this year, through pharmacies and stores, exceeded 149,000 drug packages, with a financial value of more than 5 million pounds, according to a report by the Foundation. Tussinor syrup is used to relieve coughs resulting from some diseases, such as colds and influenza, but it is not used to treat coughs resulting from smoking, asthma, or emphysema.

Starting this year, the Medicines Authority conducted 93,000 inspection visits to pharmacies and stores, and seized 12,000 violations, with the value of the seizures amounting to 200 million pounds, in addition to controlling 190 electronic crimes, and issuing 50 arrest and investigation circulars for commercial fraud and withdrawal, according to what Dr. Ali said.
