Information and investigations from the Tourism and Antiquities Police Sector confirmed that a person with criminal information – a resident of the Abu Tig Police Station in Assiut – possessed antiquities with the intention of trading them resulting from illegal digging and excavation work.

Following the legalization of the procedures, he was targeted with the participation of the Public Security Sector and was able to be seized. He was in possession of 409 artifacts, including: 48 statues, a statue head, 350 coins, 2 wooden masks, a stone piece, a pottery vessel, 3 scarabs, and 2 amulets.

When he was confronted, he admitted that he had obtained these pieces through illegal digging and excavation in one of the areas in the Abu Tig police station district with the intention of trading in them. By presenting the seized items to the competent authorities, they reported their antiquity, and legal measures were taken.

This comes within the framework of the efforts of the Ministry of Interior’s agencies to combat crime in all its forms, especially crimes of illegal digging and excavation of antiquities, and the possession of antiquities with the intention of trading them.
