At least 104 people suffered from food poisoning due to E. coli bacteria, and 34 of them were hospitalized, as a result of eating onions placed on a McDonald’s hamburger, according to statements by federal health officials on Wednesday.
Cases were recorded in 14 US states, according to an update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
One person died in Colorado, while 4 people developed life-threatening kidney complications.
Cases were recorded between September 12 and October 21, with the largest number of cases in Colorado (30 cases), followed by Montana (19 cases), Nebraska (13 cases), and New Mexico (10 cases), in addition to cases in other states such as Missouri. Utah, Wyoming, Kansas, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin.
7 of the infected people said that they ate McDonald’s food while traveling.
